SENIORS Lee County Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers and students are
spreading holiday cheer and lifting the spirits of its elderly residents. Over
12,000 handmade Christmas cards were distributed to lift the spirits of seniors
who dont have friends or family in the area. Students visit nursing homes and
assisted living facilities and low-income housing, singing and delivering cards.

County , we have many elderly residents. Some of them have outlived their
friends and relatives; sadly, some simply have been abandoned and forgotten
about them. Organized by Lee Interfaith Volunteer caregivers, young people make
cards for these residents to show that someone cares.

Volunteer Caregivers Program holiday card project - A gift made by a child
with love. 10,636 holiday cards were made by Lee County school children,
Girl Scouts and Sunday School classes. These cards were sent to nursing homes,
assisted living facilities, low income housing, recipients of Meals on Wheels
and elderly living alone in Lee County.

The Fort Myers/Cape Coral Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers Program will be
sending out about 200 volunteers to help 20 area senior citizens do clean-ups
and minor home repairs around the area. This is also the kick-off of their
holiday card project during which they plan to send at least 7,500 holiday cards
made by children to the elderly in Lee County.

Spring 99 Community Foundation Focus: HUNDREDS BENEFIT FROM
FOUNDERS SOCIETY HOLIDAY GRANTS - Fort Myers Interfaith Volunteer
Caregivers Program received a $1,000 Holiday Grant from the Southwest Florida
Community Foundation. It brightened the holidays for 34 Care partners by buying
materials to build new steps for a stroke victim, new faucets for an elderly
ladys bath and kitchen, medical supplies for a financially strapped
quadriplegic, a large button telephone for a visually impaired Care partner,
telephones for bedrooms of elderly Care partners, two robes and trees Care partners
in nursing homes, and baskets of food with gift certificates for an
additional 26 elderly Care partners.
